The main reason to purchase and have Windows anti-virus softwares installed on your computer is for the simple reason of protection. There are many different types of viruses that are created every day along with the hundreds of thousands that are already out there just waiting to be downloaded onto your computer for the only reason of creating havoc.
There are two ways that these anti virus programs search through your computer for malicious files and they include through a database and through heuristic methods.
Heuristic Methods Of Scanning And Removing
There are two basic heuristic methods that are used which include file emulation and file analysis. The file emulation method that Anti-Virus Software programs use, run files through a virtual system first before the files hit your system.
If the file does something bad to the virtual system, then it is flagged as a possible malicious file. The only problem with this method is the fact that it could pick out certain files to be viruses that might not actually be viruses. The second method which is file analysis actually analyzes the instructions of the file or program to see if there are any wrong instructions given.
An example of the instructions being wrong within a file or a program would be if you were to download a file on your computer and there were instructions that made the program destroy some very important files that were already on your computer, these would be flagged as malicious files by the Anti-Virus Software program.
The heuristic methods that have been explained are good ways to spot many types of viruses, but they are not 100 percent effective and that is why most of the anti virus programs that you will find on the market have these methods along with the database method as well.
Using Its Own Data Core For Scanning
The database method of the anti-virus software is basically just a collection of all the viruses and malware that have been identified so that when the anti virus removal tool searches through your computer, it will compare your files to the list that is in this collection and grab the files that are exactly the same as the ones in the database.
Using these two methods along with the newer method of having online automatic scanning has made the anti virus protection a must have tool of your computer. You have to be able to protect your private information, your surfing regimen, and your computer itself.
